Hello friend. As a hobby I tried to locate Atlantis. You know, not for real spirituality or science. Just like dreaming of a great ancient civilization and wondering where it could have been. Really just for relaxing the thoughts. Well for those who don’t know Atlantis. The myth of Atlantis is known from an ancient greek political statement that uses the state of Atlantis as a story about how a civilisation can end that is to proud. But since this philosopher Plato has mentioned it in his book Timaeus and Critas it has become the dream of a mystical civilization of past times with an extremly high culture and that Plato could have known it from a true story. Ever since people tried to locate Atlantis.

• Now I created a computermodel and took away the water between England an Europe until the island Doggeland appeared. To see if it was Atlantis.
• And I talk of Silverpit crater which will be more then fascinating for Atlantis searchers. Believe me, you want to see that.
• Today I don’t believe doggerland or doggerbank is the true location of Atlantis. And I also write what better candidates there are.

 

England Europe and Doggerland as Atlantis

I don’t believe doggerland anymore to be the true location of Atlantis. Whatever the article says. Even though the Silverpit crater capital city of Atlantis theory is really great. You will see all of this fascinating theory of mine in the article. It is really very cool you will see in the chapter about Silverpit crater in this article. So the idea of Doggerland being the capital island of Atlantis is interesting up to this point. Maybe even with England as the rest of Atlantis and maybe also the shore of Europe as parts of the atlantian culture. Also if you consider that Stonehenge was lately discovered as being only one part of a very much bigger culture spreading over northern England. And that this english culture is thought of as being of a high cultural level.

The indus culture Atlantis location theory

Nevertheless what also convices me to be quite a hot candiate to be Atlantis is The Indus culture. That would put Atlantis to India. This was a culture with a very high cultural level also. This people lived in India but as in the story Atlantians are described as isIand dwellers also at the shore of this culture there are many islands. And most convincing there can be found traces of a tsunami which seemingly hit the Indus Culture at some point of time. So I linked to Wikipedia articles about this culture at the end of this article. It is also quite interesting in the search for Atlantis in my opinion.

     

 

Indus culture pottery and Indus culture seals. Especially the seals seem very atlantian to me if I may say so. Especially these signs which are actually some form of “writing” but science could not yet read them. Look at these symbols. Could this be the writing of Atlantis?

South America Atlantis locating theory

But actually by now and the more I think about it I am getting more and more convinced that Atlantis must actually have been South America. This is not a new theory, actually it is one of the more famous theories. And it becomes very convincing if you consider the mentioned size of Atlantis in the old stories. The size of atlantis is given in the stories as continent sized. It is described as an island but the size is given as the size of a continent. And there are some other very interesting points about this theorie that i will talk of at the end of this text after the Doggerland stuff. Towards the end of this article I will talk about how many stories probably mixed together to form the atlantis myth and thats why there are probably several opposing ideas about Atlantis. So I think there have been several historical things of different places that all became blended into one story of atlantis. If this is true one could not tell which is the culture that Plato refers to because in this case he would be referring to about three cultures. This all I describe at the end of this atlantis article. It is most fascinating for atlantis searchers I tell you. South America will play a big role in this. Trust me it is going to be very interesting. I also have links to Wikipedia: South American cultures also at the end of this article.

I will come to the location theory that Atlantis was South America at the end of this article. You really should have a look at it. But now first we come to Doggerland Atlantis which, as fascinating as it looks, to me is not a kandidate for being Atlantis anymore. But still it has the Silverpit Crater that is a must see for Atlantis searchers in my opinion and which could play a role in understanding where I think Atlantis is located which I will talk about at the end when we come to the South America stuff.

 

Doggerland Atlantis model pictures

Between England and the european continent is a little area of higher seaground. It is called Doggerland. And because the Island of Atlantis is said to have sunk into the sea the question to all who search for the location of Atlantis arises is: Was there a time when the sea level was so low that there was an island between England and Europe. And I researched that and the answer is yes. In times at about 2000 B.C. the sea level was dropped as you can see in the images where the sea level is most dropped. This is just a vaque dating. I just mention it so that we get some idea about the dating of the pictures. Because remember that the time datings of Platos text about Atlantis put the whole thing to about 20.000 BC or something. But here we are talking of 2000 BC. This is 4000 Years ago. 20.000 BC is 22.000 years ago (For those who come from another time measurement.) Do with Doggerland we are not talking of the time Plato gives in his text.

 

Now what did I do? I made a computermodel of the area between England and Europe where Doggerland is. I based that computermodel on real seafloor data. That sounds more complicated as it is in fact I just created a model in a 3d-movie-maker with the seaflor height picture and then put a water box above it and lowered this box or raised it.

But in fact I made a model of real doggerland Atlantis with scientific data. But still Doggerland i think is not so hot a candidate for the location of Atlantis as the Indus Valley Civilization in India and shurely not as hot as South America. But Doggerlands Silverpit Crater still plays a role in what I think about locating the ancient culture of Atlantis. We will come to this at the end of this article. But now I want to present my images to you of Doggerland Atlantis especially because of Silverpit crater as I said.

That is England and Europe as it is today seen in my model.

As we drop the water level slowly little heights appear.

As we lower the sea level some more we see nearly all of Doggerland or Doggerbank Atlantis. note how the channel between England and Belgium becomes smaller.

And this is the complete size of Doggerbank or Doggerland Atlantis. Because if you lower the water even more the channel between England and Europe is closed. And since the Egyptians told the story of Atlantis subjugating Egypt to a greek traveler I assume that there should be at least this channel river to get easily around Spain to Egypt. I will put the pictures where I dropped the sea level even more later in this article.

By the time of the picture above we are at about 4000 – 2000 B.C. The first picture is as I said is from our time today.

At this time you have to say about Doggerland or Doggerbank Atlantis two things. First it is much to small for the described island in Platos writing. But a pro point is that one of the stories about Atlantis says that it had some cliff walls in the colors red, white and black, I think, and this is a typical sight of the German island Heligoland which is a small island near todays Doggerbank. In the first Image it is somewhere to the right bottom of Doggerland close to the coast.

To the size is to say that the Doggerland or Doggerbank could have been only the main island of lets say England or the coast of England and the coast of Europe that we see in the picture.

 

And now we come to the most fascinating Silverpit crater.

 

Silverpit Crater as Doggerland Atlantis capital city

But now comes the most interesting point about Doggerland Atlantis. The texts about Atlantis contains a notion of the main city of Atlantis being made up of circular rivers. And in the middle island of that city being a temple to a God. And then this text notes that the city of Atlantis was build by the sea-god Poseidon for the people of Atlantis.

Lets hear it from Platos text:

Poseidon carved the mountain where his love dwelt into a palace and enclosed it with three circular moats(=rivers) of increasing width, varying from one to three stadia and separated by rings of land proportional in size. The Atlanteans then built bridges northward from the mountain, making a route to the rest of the island. They dug a great canal to the sea, and alongside the bridges carved tunnels into the rings of rock so that ships could pass into the city around the mountain; they carved docks from the rock walls of the moats. Every passage to the city was guarded by gates and towers, and a wall surrounded each of the city’s rings. The walls were constructed of red, white and black rock quarried from the moats, and were covered with brass, tin and the precious metal orichalcum, respectively.

The idea that the sea-god formed this place could point to a naturaly created and spectacular sight of some river rings. That ancient people found and then thought of as being made by God or the Gods.

And now look what can be found around Doggerland or Doggerbank.

On a little island right under “Atlantis” there is really the impact crater of a meteorit called Silverpit crater. It forms a ring structure that is about 2.4 kilometers (~1.7 miles) wide. The meteorit landing was millions of years ago, but the Atlanteans could have found this natural sight and and thought of it as a magical place.

So we have a big ring structure from a meteorit and the ancient people could have easily said that it was made from the Gods. But how did this look like. And I also made a model for that using the real measured data of Silverpit Crater. Of course we have to consider that there would have been some loose ground on the crater when it was above the sea level.

I had to put some new data in for the crater because the measuring does not cover the whole crater. And I just guessed the height of the crater. Also I guessed the exact location of the crater. It was good enough for me to get an overview but it is absolutely not scientific.

The crater does not look like that, it could look something like that. I had to interpolate one missing quarter of the height data of that crater and just guessed the height and the position is also not to accurate.

I tried to add some city texture. Somehow this gives an impression what Silverpit Crater could look like when you drop the sea level. The whole crater-ring-structure is about 2.4 kilometers (~1.7 miles) in diameter

The capital city of Atlantis?

As I said stunning as this is later in this article  we come to South America and then you will know why I am so convinced of this.

Don’t forget Atlantis is described as a much bigger island. And we come to this in a few seconds after the rest of the image series. Even though I don’t trust these old meassured things from old texts to much. But Atlantis is described as being of a gigantic size and that factor has to be considered if we look for Atlantis.

 

So right before we come to a theorie that much better fits the vast size of the described island lets have a quick look at the rest of the image series. Here is the rest of the series of what would happen if you lower the sea level even more.

Those images actually I made around 2006. Dont really search for Atlantis.

Ps. For all who look for the same data I had about the ground under sea level. I found the Height-Maps once I learned that “bathymetry” means maps of the height of the sea floor. from there I could google these height-images of the sea floor. And search for “silverpit crater”.

But let us once more look at the other location theories. As I said there is something interesting to say about South America which makes it actually the only possible candidate for the location of Atlantis. But lets have just a short look at the Indus Culture first.

Coming back to the Indus Culture Atlantis

As I said it is nothing compared to South America but another quite interesting candidate to be Atlantis in my opinion: Wikipedia Indus Valley Civilization

Because this culture was close to Egypt and Greece where the Atlantis story originated and it is definite science that a tsunami hit this culture. And also the Indus river-delta is surrounded by Islands. At least if you lower the sea level. I even did also that but I can not find the pictures at the moment. And I have heard something that this culture later foundet the Akkadian Empire. Which sounds like the ancient greek Arkadia and could have mixed all together in human myth / history to a land af great knowledge.

I don’t remember exactly and I don’t know where on the internet I read this. As I said, I thought it was a decent site as I remember.

Now some very interesting things about South America Atlantis

And as I said South America is the most interesting candidate to be Atlantis the big island in the “sea of atlas” (atlantic ocean). For me at the moment south America is the definite location of Atlantis

The ancient cultures of North America where seemingly of an increadible high culture. I saw a report on tv that the found a skull on which there where marks of a brain surgery. That means the skull was opened and closed and the patient survived which can be seen in the fact that the wound healed. That can be called high culture. The idea that with favorable streaming and wind the people of South America where able to reach Europe and Africa I think is not to far fetched.

Plato writes that in Atlantis: “Twice in the year they gathered the fruits of the earth.” That seems to also point to South America

But what absolutely speaks for South Amerika is the size of Atlantis in Plato’s book and this following description:

From Plato’s Book Timaeus written in 360 BC. The earliest references to Atlantis:For it is related in our records how once upon a time your State stayed the course of a mighty host, which, starting from a distant point in the Atlantic ocean, was insolently advancing to attack the whole of Europe, and Asia to boot. For the ocean there was at that time navigable; for in front of the mouth which you Greeks call, as you say, ‘the pillars of Heracles,’ [= Strait of Gibraltar] there lay an island which was larger than Libya and Asia together; and it was possible for the travelers of that time to cross from it to the other islands, and from the islands to the whole of the continent over against them which encompasses that veritable ocean. For all that we have here, lying within the mouth of which we speak, is evidently a haven having a narrow entrance; but that yonder is a real ocean, and the land surrounding it may most rightly be called, in the fullest and truest sense, a continent. Now in this island of Atlantis there existed a confederation of kings, of great and marvelous power, which held sway over all the island, and over many other islands also and parts of the continent.

So this text says: Outside of the haven-like mediterranean sea behind the Strait of Gibralty there is a “real (veritable)” ocean. And at a distant point in this atlantic ocean there is a land that can truly be called a continent becaue it is larger then Libia and Asia together. And at a described past time the ocean was navigable.

So lets see how big this is: Libya and Asia together.

In Platos time people knew three landmasses that they called continents. Europe Afrika and Asia. and Afrika at that time was called Libya. But the people did not know all of these continents so they knew only the parts of these continents closer to the mediterranean sea. And Plato describes Atlantis as a another continent despite the three known continents.

So here is a map from Herodotus of the three known continents of Platos time.

And now I layed South America beside it to see if it is in size bigger then Lybia and Asia together. So to say as the fourth continent. And that looks like this:

We see that matches pretty much exactly the size description. And if you compare it to the size of England, which I put in the right part of the image, then only South America is the possible “island” of Atlantis.

If you want to see this on a world map again.

Outside “of the Strait of Gibralta” there is a “real ocean”. And in this ocean “there lay an island which was larger than Libya and Asia together” at a “distant point in the atlantic ocean” which “may most rightly be called, in the fullest and truest sense, a continent”

“and it was possible for the travelers of that time to cross from it to the other islands, and from the islands to the whole of the continent over against them which encompasses that veritable ocean”

(= and it was possible to travel from island to island and then to the continent laying on the opposite site of this ocean which surrounds this ocean(or which is surrounded by this ocean))

“For the ocean there was at that time navigable.”

So I think there is only one option what this next continent can be that is described in this original text about atlantis and that is South America.

 

But South America did not sink into the sea as Atlantis did

South America did not sink into the sea. But sinking of cities into the sea and destructions of cities through vulcanoes and tsunamies was something known at the time of Platos book. In fact this happened only ten years before Plato wrote his book. And it happened some 1000 years before Plato’s book. Lets have a look.

There was the destruction of Minoan islands about 1500 BC that is about  1200 years before Platos book. This was one of the biggest eruptions in newer times and it might still have been in the common memory or history writings. This eruption devastated the island of Thera (also called Santorini), including the Minoan settlement at Akrotiri, as well as devastating communities and agricultural areas on nearby islands and on the coast of Crete due to a related earthquake or tsunami.

And then there was the city of Helike very close to where Plato was living. And this city was destroyed in 373 BC. Ten years before Plato wrote his book and mentioned Atlantis.

And the real destruction of Helike was like this: During a winter night. The city and a space of 12 stadia below it sank into the earth and were covered over by the sea.

The city patron of Helike was Poseidon. There was a temple dedicated to the Helikonian Poseidon.

The catastrophe was attributed to the vengeance of Poseidon, whose wrath was incited because the inhabitants of Helike had refused to give their statue of Poseidon to the Ionian colonists in Asia, or even to supply them with a model.

Timaeus written in 360 BC 10 years after the Helike sank in the sea. And then there is all this talk of Poseidonin the original story about Atlantis. So lets look at these events of sinking and destroed cities on a map compared to wher Plato lived and wrote his book.

So What do we have here: A possible city in a meteroid crater “made by god”. a sunk city ten yers before Platos book whose sinking descripton very much sounds like the Atlantis catastrophy. And this cities patron god was Poseidon. And we have a story about another continent that lays across the atlantic ocean.

I would say that we have two or three stories here that where combined to form one story. One about vulcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamies that sink entire cities and one about the knowledge of the next continent far on the other side of the atlantic ocean and maybe a third one about a city on a meteorite crater.

Maybe there was even knowledge from a tsunami that hit the continent on the other side of the ocean that was then filled with Platos fresh story of the sinking of Helike. And maybe also there really was a city with a ring structure on that continent that is the true origin of the ring-structure capital-city of Atlantis.

But the main pont is that I think we have a mix of different stories here.

So that would mean the island Atlantis did not sink at all. It would be South America, the next continent. And it would still be laying there as ever.

 

Why is there no high atlantian culture anymore

But why was there no high culture from atlantian times to the present day? This would not be to uncommon. In history there have been many events of cultural descent. The greeks once build giant temples and then there where hundreds of years of loss of culture and when they rediscovered the temples they wndered where those came from even though their ancestors had build them. In romanized europe they build things whith techniques that where then lost and invented agon over thousand years later. So loss of high culture is a common thing in earth history.

So when Europeans met the inhabitants of south America and the caribbean they found people of lesser technical knowledge then their own. So htese images of South American people would then be how atlantians looked like at least from their phenotype, not from their cloth and technical devices. These images could in this theorie show the atlantians after a massive cultural descent.

I show these images so that we get an impression of how an atlantian inhabitant might have looked like from his body form and type.

And those are two images of the culture in the caribbean as it was when european settlers arrived there. Roughly about 15 hundred 500 years ago.

 

Bonus point about South America Atlantis

And another bonus fascinating point about South America Atlantis: The myth states that the atlantians had a strange metal unknown to the Europeans and Africans which is in the old texts called orichalcum. Now here is an old South American “sword” the macuahuitl. Which is made with obsidian blades (sharp vulcanic glass). So I am wondering if this might be the strange “metal” orichalcum from Atlantis that is described.

 

 

 

 

A friend of mine says that if the legend says that Egypt was conquered by the state of Atlantis there must have been a fight and then there would necessarily be some relicts or remnants. There would be shields or swords or coins or anything left in Europe/Africa that comes from South America. That is actually very true. I think the only chance that there was a fight but there are no remnants is that it might have been a small fight or that it might have happened really long time ago. I mean like 10.000 or 20.000 or longer years ago. then there might be no remnants. And this idea of timing could be possible. Because remember 20.000 years before is the date given in one of the original texts about Atlantis. If this all, the people from atlantis coming to Europe would have happened a very, very long time ago as the old myth states then I think it might be possible that really nothing is left over. And then South America for me is today the canditate to be the real Atlantis.

 

A video you really want to see

In this article I elaborated about that we have to see the atlantis myth critically and take apart Platos story into several pieces making it probable that there never was a great island and civilisation that was destroyed.

But what if there was a big ancient civilisation distroyed by a flood which is now forgotten.

I found this video by a guy called Graham Hancock and he speaks about theories of a worldwide civilisation that was destroyed by a worldwide flood. It is not directly about Atlantis but trust me: If you are interested into Atlantis you most definitely want to see this video!!

It is 1:24 hours long but in my opinion it is really worth watching. I had much fun seeing this.
